Sweet
Briar is a wonderfully exciting educational community. Here, young women
from more than 40 states and 19 countries learn, grow, and have fun in an
environment where students are supported and encouraged to excel, and where
faculty and staff members are committed to the success of every student.
While we have a small graduate program in
education, our focus is on the undergraduate experience and our mission is
to prepare students to be poised for success in whatever they choose to do
following graduation. We do this through a customized educational program
that combines an academic foundation in the liberal arts, preparation for
careers, and individual development.
Admission to Sweet Briar College is
competitive. We seek intelligent women with diverse backgrounds, talents,
interests, and experiences who want to pursue a challenging education within
a close-knit community. The Committee on Admissions selects applicants who
present evidence of a strong academic foundation, intellectual ability and
motivation, and strength of character.
Sweet Briar College accepts the General
Education Diploma (GED) in lieu of a high school diploma for first-year,
transfer, and Turning Point students. Individuals with a GED are urged to
contact the Admissions Office early in their application process.
Applications from home schooled students are
encouraged and welcomed at Sweet Briar. Please contact your admissions
counselor early in the process to talk about your application.
