The University: A selective four-year private Christian university. ACU includes the colleges of Business Administration, Biblical Studies, and Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School, the Graduate School of Theology, and the School of Nursing. It is affiliated with the Churches of Christ and is one of the largest private universities in the Southwest. Academic programs: Students may choose from 70 baccalaureate majors that include 117 areas of study, 30 master's degree programs and one doctoral program. Students: About 4,800 students, including approximately 4,200 undergraduates and 600 graduate students, generally from all 50 states and about 60 other countries. Location: ACU is in Abilene, Texas, an All-American City of 111,000 people 150 miles west of the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Faculty: About 200 faculty members with 87 percent of tenure-track faculty holding terminal degrees. A student-to-faculty ratio of 17:1 Health professional school acceptance rate: More than 80 percent of ACU students who apply for admission to medical and dental schools are accepted, a rate more than double the national average. Foreign study: ACU's Study Abroad programs take students to study in places such as Europe, Asia and Latin America. Computer labs in residence halls: Each residence hall has a lab with Macintosh and Windows-based PC computers. Internet and email: Each ACU student has an email address and access to the Internet and campus servers. Email allows students another way to communicate with their professors, friends and family. Campus Organizations: There are more than 90 campus clubs and groups in which students can become involved, including men's and women's social clubs and intramurals. Athletics: NCAA Division II, Lone Star Conference. Football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, men's golf, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's track and field, women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, and women's softball. Club-level men's and women's soccer also are offered. ACU has been runner-up for the Sears Directors Cup three of the past five years, recognizing the best all-around sports program in NCAA Division II.
