Knox Theological Seminary 800-344-KNOX (5669)

One of the most exciting courses of study in seminary training today is now available at Knox Theological Seminary! The Master's Program in Christianity and Culture is designed to re-create the education of the Reformers. It will provide students with a sound foundation for understanding and communicating the Cultural Mandate (Genesis 1:28) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). This curriculum will also re-ignite the student's love for the sovereignty of God and His divine purpose for man.

Our aims. These core courses aim to give expression to the Cultural Mandate dimension of our seminary's founding vision by attempting to recreate, as practicably as possible, the classical Christian education of the leaders of the Reformation and the framers of the American Republic. This curriculum will, as R. C. Sproul, Board member at Knox, has described it, recover the lost tools of ministry.

Our aspirations. How will Knox graduates be uniquely equipped for ministry through this curriculum? How will it make them better leaders for Christ's Church? After taking these courses, we expect our graduates to be equipped to fulfill the following works of ministry:

proclaim and defend the excellencies of the Bible as the Word of God, and, as a result, encourage the faithful regarding the Bible's trustworthiness and to convict the critic who would contradict it; contend for the historic Christian teaching on the social institutions ordained by God-the family, the government, and the church, and thereby propagate the distinctly Christian moral vision for society, diagnosing its ills and prescribing its remedies according to the Bible; promote and encourage Christian citizenship, so that the faithful will act to preserve, rebuild, and enlarge the Biblical foundations for liberty in our nation and the world, and so that succeeding generations will embrace the Reformed heritage of Christian involvement in civic affairs.

In sum, we expect Knox graduates to be evangelists and apologists, prepared to fulfill both the Great Commission and the Cultural Mandate. They are to be leaders of virtue and vision, principle and passion, examples of salt and light for their fellow Christians to emulate. For their role, Knox graduates will gain from this program the powerful traits of:

  • historical perspective, to draw on the treasures of the wisdom of the ages to address the needs of the present;
  • the philosophical habit of mind, to distinguish superficial from effective solutions to the problems we face;
  • the moral imagination, not only to see the present, fallen condition of their world but also to envision what it can become through the redemptive power of Christ; and
  • rhetorical skill, to persuade the faithful to live courageous and sacrificial lives for the Kingdom of God and the gospel of our precious Lord Christ.
