Northwood is a private, tax-exempt, independent, accredited, co-educational business and management-oriented college with three campuses: in Midland, Michigan; West Palm Beach, Florida; and Cedar Hill, Texas.

Northwood was founded to provide middle and upper level management personnel of a "take-charge leadership" nature who, with a minimum of additional on-the-job training, can be immediately productive to American businesses.

We focus on education for a life of contribution in the private sector. We believe that is where the productive future exists. We specialize, in that we develop and build, all our curriculums around the principles of the market economy.

Overall, we favor a society based on the unchanging values of individual choice, individual effort, and individual responsibility. We endorse free enterprise and the competitive market for ideas and things as a way to insure that.

How we translate these beliefs into curriculums is unique. Most other colleges and universities take a horizontal, functional approach to professional preparation. That is, the "majors" are "managerial theory, and the like. They are almost always offered as concentrations in the last two years of a four-year program. The first two years are devoted exclusively to "general education."

We view the preparation process differently. Our curriculums focus on industries, not managerial functions. Thus, we offer curriculums aimed at specific industries, teaching "across" managerial functions "into" special focus economic sectors. We teach to industries, not management functions. Graduates do not have to be retrained for the particular industry…they already know the industry. The major difference, of course, is that we do all this in the first two years of college experience! There is no "waiting period" before getting down to business. After that first two years a student has the Associate’s Degree, and is productive then. If you elect, a job could immediately follow. If further education is desired - and it often is, if the object is to gain upper management skills - then the student enters a BBA program to deepen and intensify the preparation.

At this level the focus of the curriculum changes from industry-specific to management functions, because the student has the basic background in the industry area to make use of the information available. We believe this process makes stronger managers and more confident, useful, and happy graduates.

Northwood serves as a facilitator of knowledge by bringing together a unique collection of people who can change students’ lives. When students use this capacity to its fullest, truly remarkable things happen.
